For Booking Reservations

Reservations are available for those wishing to join us for lunch. The best way to book is via our online system. Online reservations can be made up to 24 hours in advance. Please note that the majority of our tables are offered on a walk-in basis. We are a busy venue on the weekends and a 5-10 min wait for a table at peak times is common. We are unable to take reservations if you’re joining us for coffee & cake, but will always do our best to accommodate you on the day. For visitors looking to come for just drinks and cake we recommend that you avoid lunchtime (11.30am-1.45pm).

If your table request is for seven people or more, please contact us by email or after 2pm by telephone (contact details below) and we’ll do our best to assist – To ensure you’re served efficiently, we will require a pre-order for groups of seven or more guests. In order to guarantee great service for all our guests, the maximum table size we can accommodate at the weekend is a table for six.

If you’d prefer an outside table (available May-Sept), require a highchair or if you’re bringing your dog with you – please note this in the ‘Comments/Request’ box and we shall try our very best to fulfill your request.

Welcome to The Potting Shed

Relax and enjoy wonderful food made with great produce

Situated on the edge of St Albans with stunning views over open fields, the Potting Shed Cafe is light and spacious, serving speciality teas and coffee, breakfast, brunch and lunch dishes using our own grown and locally sourced produce.

Beautiful views from our award-winning café

Set within a converted barn and with views over a beautifully landscaped garden and open countryside, the award-winning Potting Shed Café is one of the most picturesque venues to eat in St Albans, Harpenden, Welwyn and surrounding villages in Hertfordshire.

On warm sunny days, you can dine outside on our sheltered patio or, with the bi-fold doors open, enjoy the summer breeze gently blowing in.

Well behaved dogs are welcome, so you can relax and enjoy a well-earned drink and slice of cake after a walk around Heartwood Forest situated less than a mile down the road.  Located at Carpenter’s Garden Centre, there is also ample free parking and the option to browse the beautiful displays of plants and flowers on your way in and out of the cafe.

Delicious fresh food created with seasonal, home-grown produce

After growing fruit and vegetables on-site for our farm shop for over 90yrs, we’ve gained a wealth of knowledge in growing the best produce.

Our chefs use what we grow to create original dishes and seasonal favourites for our specials menu, so we always have something new to try.

Whether you’re looking for a light bite or hearty lunch, we have a wide range of dishes to suit everyone. You will also find a great selection of Vegetarian, Vegan And Gluten-Free options.

We welcome dogs

Our venue and team are very fond of dogs and welcome them to the café & garden, but we ask that owners ensure their dogs are well behaved & do not cause a nuisance to other guests.

In order to ensure everyone’s visit is pleasurable, we do not permit barking, whining, jumping up at the tables or dogs on the chairs or furniture.

Due to space constraints, we allow one dog per person and a maximum of two dogs per table. Regretfully, we cannot host large dogs (anything larger than an average sized Labrador).

When making a booking please let us know that you will be bringing your dog so we can reserve a table in one of our dog-friendly areas. We look forward to seeing you and your doggie soon!
