Corona Virus Update
following the announcement that St Albans/ Herts will be in the new Tier 2 category when the lockdown ends on the 3rd December (meaning households wont be able to mix indoors). We have made the difficult decision to keep the café closed until further notice. Unfortunately, it won’t be economically viable for us to re-open the café with a likely large reduction in customer numbers. We will be monitoring the situation closely and will provide further updates in the new year. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers for your support over the past year. We wish all of you a great Christmas and hope to see you again soon. Please check our Facebook page for updates.
Relax and enjoy wonderful food, made with great produce, overlooking beautiful countryside
Situated on the edge of St Albans with stunning views over open fields, the Potting Shed Cafe is light and spacious serving speciality teas and coffee, breakfast, brunch and lunch dishes using our own grown and locally sourced produce.
Set within a converted barn and with views over a beautifully landscaped garden and open countryside, The award winning Potting Shed Café is one of the most picturesque venues to eat in St Albans, Harpenden, Welwyn and villages in Hertfordshire. On warm sunny days you can dine outside on our sheltered patio or with the bi-fold doors open, enjoy the summer breeze gently blowing in. Well behaved dogs are welcome, so you can relax and enjoy a well-earned drink and slice of cake after a walk around Heartwood Forest situated less than a mile down the road.
After growing fruit and vegetables on-site for our farm shop for over 90yrs, we’ve gained a wealth of knowledge in growing the best produce. Our chefs use what we grow to create original dishes and seasonal favourites for our specials menu so we always have something new to try. Whether you’re looking for a light bite or hearty lunch we have a wide range of dishes to suit everyone. You will also find a great selection of Vegetarian, Vegan And Gluten-Free options.
Online booking requests must be made 24hrs in advance. If you require a reservation within 24hrs please contact us by telephone. If you require a highchair or are planning to visit with your dog, please state in the ‘Comments/ Request’ box so we can reserve tables in the correct area for you. If you arrive with a dog and we weren’t made aware in advance we may have allocated a table for you in our dog-free area.
A true Field to Fork experience
We Welcome Dogs!
We welcome dogs in the café & garden, but ask that owners ensure their dogs are well behaved & do not cause a nuisance to staff & other guests. Barking, whining or jumping up at the table or furniture will not be tolerated. For hygiene reasons, it is also prohibited for dogs to sit on owners laps or on the furniture. Due to space constraints, we allow one dog per person & a maximum of two dogs per table. Regretfully, we cannot host large dogs (anything larger than an average sized Labrador). When making a booking please let us know that you will be bringing your dog so we can reserve a table in one of our dog-friendly areas.
